05-31-2012: "Little Night Bloom"
A curious star-shaped flower that only blooms at night... I must confess this caught my eye right away and I had to snap this shot in the middle of a light rain.
Why is it we sometimes act like this flower, hiding its beauty in the dark of the night? Hiding like this, wherever we think we can be safe from the criticism from others makes me feel that sometimes we are just too self-consciuous for our own good. We need to change our focus and bloom in the middle of the day, so we can share what we really are with others around us.03-03-2012 "Assassin's Portrait"
I love these bugs... they are basically my all time favorites. I am particularly impressed about how little they are impressed by us humans. They do not really care about us that much... in that sense they are like our cats: they do not mind us too much most of the time.
This little one was walking around my garden and gave no second thoughts when I offered my hand: it jumped right in and stayed there like it was the most normal thing in the world. You cannot detect any fear... quite unlike with other creatures.07-28-2012 "Impact"
Sometimes we fail to realize the impact of our actions. We walk our lives doing things we think necessary, but the consequences are rarely measured. It is not an easy task, our actions start chain reactions that keep going and going way beyond our ability to see or calculate.
Still, most of the times we make no real effort to understand.
Changes for the best can start by simple things, like seeing beyond our actions and into their consequences.07-18-2012 "Diversity"
Found an old box full of crayons the other day... my sister's, probably. There were many colors and styles there, I was actually a bit surprised by the huge choice of colors and variations.
Although we are just one race, we are just as diverse as these old crayons. Not only in the color of our skin, but our creed, political beliefs, sexual preferences, ways to see life... all of these and many others add more and more complexity to our "crayon box".
The nice thing we have in common with the crayons is that we can all work together to create beautiful things. Let us not waste that privilege.06-23-2012 "In too deep"
The eyes are the windows of the soul... that is an often heard phrase indeed. This eye seems to go very deep, maybe too deep. What goes on behind this eye? Does it lead to a soul or do we have to accept that only humans are privileged with such a commodity?
There is awareness here, not just some empty shell. I believe there is a soul just like mine behind these eyes and because of that I also believe respect and care must be given as they would be to anyone. Some might not like it, but I think we are pretty much equals in this aspect.
Keep that in mind...06-11-2012 "Overcome"
"Life does not stop" - If there is single phrase that encompasses truth, this must be it. Because life does not know boundaries or rules, it just happens and will keep happening even if we are not around to interfere with it. We tend to see life from our own limited perspective, the human life. But we are just a piece of a huge puzzle, and we would not be missed should we just be gone.06-10-2012 "Sunbath"
Nature has a way with patterns and behaviors. When you think about a simple thing as taking a sunbath, you do not realize that lots of creatures take them, be it for leisure or for a physiological need. This tiny guy is about a quarter inch long and it seems to be enjoying its time under the sun.
Think twice next time you feel the urge to squash a litle bug, we are more alike than you think!08-21-2012 "Architect"
Nature may seem out to get rid of us sometimes, but you have to stop and see the marvels it creates: I like spiders, I find them fascinating. I was not aware I had a new neighbor until today, when I took this picture. This is a somewhat big spider so I think it probable moved here from somewhere else.
Be as it may, I am happy to have it! The way it worked its web is amazing, and it was done in less than a night, which is an architectural feat I find simply jaw-dropping.
So yes, nature can be very mean, but also very amazing!07-21-2012 "Galaxian!"
When I found this tiny fly my first thought was "Galaxian!" For those of you young enough not to know what I am talking about here is a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galaxian
I just could not avoid relating to that old videogame since this fly has all the right points going for it: perfect shape, metallic and lively colors... It was a real-life representation of the enemies.
On a side note, it is amazing what nature can give us: this tiny package is so beautiful and complex that is a little scary!
